International Associations of Lions Clubs was conceived by a Chicagoan, Melvin Jones,
and first met on June 17, 1917 in Chicago, Illinois. This was the start of what is now the
world’s largest and most active service club organization.
Since 1917, Lions clubs have offered people the opportunity to give something back to their
communities. From involving members in projects as local as cleaning up an area park or
as far-reaching as bringing sight to the world’s blind, Lions clubs have always embraced those
committed to building a brighter future for their community.
Today with more than approximately 45,000 clubs in 197 countries and geographical areas,
Lions have expanded their focus to help meet the ever-increasing needs of our global community.

Our programs are continually changing to meet new needs and greater demands, but our mission has never wavered: “We Serve.”
The EMBLEM is a large letter “L” standing for Law-Liberty-Labor-Love-Lions on a circle representing the Lions and Lions Clubs all bound together into one.
The COLORS of all Lions are Purple and Gold.
The SLOGAN of Lions is Liberty, Intelligence, our Nation’s Safety.

The MOTTO of all Lions is “WE SERVE.”
The Sun Prairie Lions Club is 77 years old.
The Sun Prairie Lions Club was granted its charter by Lions International on September
28, 1933. At the time of its charter, the Sun Prairie club had 25 members.
